Employer Spotlight: L'Oréal USA
L'Oréal USA, based in New York, NY, is a subsidiary of L'Oréal, headquartered in Paris, France. Known globally for its commitment to sustainable business practices, L'Oréal develops and manufactures hair care, hair color, skincare, color cosmetics and fragrances for the consumer and professional markets. The company's North Little Rock, Arkansas Campus, encompassing 100 acres, boasts 900,000 square feet and employs 600 Arkansans who manufacture products for both domestic and international markets. In addition to being ISO 14001-compliant, the facility was named 2010 Corporate Recycler of the Year by the Arkansas Recycling Coalition.
L'Oréal USA's North Little Rock Maybelline plant is the first industry to participate in the HEAL program, beginning a partnership in May 2009. The projected cost of the L'Oréal retrofit is $360,470, and with an estimated annual energy savings of $83,684. The scope of work includes: installation of variable-flow drives at sixteen separate air handler units within the factory, installation of a heat exchanger to bypass their cooling tower, and replacement of two electric pump motors with energy efficient models. The savings are then passed on to L'Oréal employees in the form of HEAL home energy assessments, financing, and energy efficiency retrofits. Since beginning the partnership,, HEAL has completed ninety (90) home energy assessments for L'Oreal employees, of which thirty-three (33) have received free retrofit assistance.
