Friendship Community Care, Inc. is the participating employer in the Home Energy Affordability Loan for Congressional District Three

FCC set the example for employees via their own HEAL assisted, commercial energy audit which identified energy savings in five key facilities, located in Russellville, Bryant and Marshall. FCC is allocating some of the expected facility energy savings to provide a revolving low interest loan fund that employees have accessed to undertake similar energy efficient improvements in their own homes. Employees are repaying the loans through payroll deductions over a two or three year term.

Friendship Community Care, Inc. (FCC) was selected as the third industry partner to participate in the William J. Clinton Foundation’s Home Energy Affordability Loan (HEAL) program. HEAL, a program of the Clinton Climate Initiative-AR, is an energy efficiency program that helps companies and employees reduce their energy costs and Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG). Friendship Community Care, Inc. whose primary office is located in Russellville, Arkansas, is a private, non-profit organization serving individuals with developmental disabilities, including autism, epilepsy, cerebral palsy and similar disorders, throughout the entire state of Arkansas. The purpose of the organization is to provide support and services to individuals and families that will allow them to be independent and productive citizens.

“We are very pleased to be a partner in this innovative program” said Cindy Mahon, FCC President.  “The HEAL program will help us reduce our carbon footprint and, more importantly, help many of our employees increase their home energy efficiency, which generates real savings on their monthly utility costs.”

Up to 100 FCC employees are to receive free home energy audits, and 30 low to moderate income employees will be eligible to receive retrofit implementation assistance from trained AmeriCorps service members. “Friendship, which is one of the Arkansas’ most respected nonprofits, represents an excellent opportunity to bring the HEAL model to the nonprofit sector”, said Martha Jane Murray, HEAL Program Director.

Over 70 FCC employees have already received free home energy audits and Personal Energy Plans, and 30 homeowners have already completed Energy Efficiency retrofits.

The William J. Clinton Foundation’s HEAL program institutes a highly measurable and scalable design addressing energy efficiency and affordability, job creation, and greenhouse gas (GHG) reductions. HEAL recognizes that improving the energy efficiency of existing homes and commercial buildings can have the most immediate impact on reducing GHG at the least cost. HEAL is committed to empowering industries, communities, and families alike toward positive social responsibility through energy conscientiousness.

The Home Energy Affordability Loan Program is funded by a Department of Energy Grant (DE-EE0000179) to the Arkansas Energy Office (AEO) a division of the Arkansas Economic Development Commission.  The AEO is responsible for overall program management and monitoring the Clinton Climate Initiative (CCI) in implementation of the HEAL program.
