In 2005, President Clinton convened the first Annual Meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI), bringing together a community of global leaders in New York City to devise and implement solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges. Through its emphasis on results, CGI creates more than an opportunity for discussion: each CGI participant must undertake a specific action—called a Commitment to Action— in one of four focus areas.

In three years, CGI has inspired nearly 1,000 of these Commitments to Action, involving more than 1,000 organizations in over 100 countries, with the potential to impact hundreds of millions of lives.

In 2008, CGI has expanded to engage new audiences in Asia, on college campuses, and online.

The CGI Community

CGI Annual Meeting: Each September, a diverse, non-partisan group of heads of state, business leaders, NGOs, academics, and members of the media gather in New York City for three days of in-depth discussions to solve pressing global challenges. Members are chosen by invite-only, and come from an array of political, geographic, ethnic, and religious backgrounds.

CGI International: In 2007, President Clinton announced that CGI would launch a series of international meetings. The inaugural meeting will be CGI Asia in Hong Kong in 2008. These gatherings will bring CGI’s unique model of commitment-making to different regions around the world. Like CGI’s Annual Meeting, CGI International will examine and take concrete action on important local and global issues. Learn more at www.clintonglobalinitiative.org/asia.

CGI U: To reach the next generation of leaders, President Clinton is expanding the model of philanthropy to engage college students and universities to take action. The first meeting of CGI U was held at Tulane University in New Orleans in March 2008, where more than 600 students made commitments to tackle the issues that matter to them most.

MyCommitment.org: MyCommitment.org was inspired by President Clinton’s belief that we each have the ability to help others realize a better future. MyCommitment.org provides individuals with the tools to make their own CGI commitments and connect with those who share a common vision for social change. The interactive website is inspiring and empowering a grassroots movement of commitment-making among people around the world. Make your own commitment at www.MyCommitment.org.
