Why Childhood Obesity?

Childhood Obesity – A National Health Epidemic

Childhood obesity is one of our nation’s leading health threats. Today about 25 million kids (ages 2-19) in the United States are overweight or at risk of becoming overweight. That’s nearly one of every three kids. The obesity epidemic is taking its toll as more and more kids are developing health conditions and diseases typically seen in adults. It is estimated that 1 in 3 children born after the year 2000 may develop Type II diabetes.

That’s why the Clinton Foundation has partnered with the American Heart Association in a joint effort to stop the nationwide increase in childhood obesity by 2010. This starts with empowering kids nationwide to make healthy lifestyle choices.
