Industry Program

The Alliance for a Healthier Generation is engaging industry leaders to join the fight against childhood obesity.

In 2006, the Alliance reached landmark agreements with beverage and snack food manufacturers to implement new guidelines for products served in cafeterias and vending machines. These nutrition guidelines – developed in collaboration with Coca-Cola, Cadbury Schweppes, Campbell Soup Company, Dannon, Kraft Foods, Mars and PepsiCo, in conjunction with the American Heart Association – promote fruits, vegetables and low-fate diary products, in addition to lower-calorie beverages and portion control.

The Alliance continues to work closely with industry around its Healthy Schools Program, designed to give schools the help they need to become healthier places for staff and students. The program will:

  • Increase opportunities for students to exercise and play
  • Put healthy foods and beverages in vending machines and cafeterias
  • Increase resources for teachers and staff to become healthy role models
