White House at Work
America’s diversity has always been one of its greatest strengths. It is the principle embodied in the motto of the Great Seal of the United States of America: E pluribus unum. Out of many, one.
For President Clinton, this was more than a motto. He believed there was nothing more powerful than a diverse group of Americans working toward a common purpose. The members of his White House staff truly comprised a cross section of American life. They came from many backgrounds and professions: Nobel economists, business leaders, law professors, historians, scientists, and civil rights activists. Together, they engaged in a vigorous exchange of ideas, generating innovative solutions to America’s biggest challenges.
