William J. Clinton Presidential Center Hosts First Annual American Classics Festival
Music, Motorcycles, March of Dimes and Much, Much More
The William J. Clinton Presidential Center will host the first annual American Classics Festival in Little Rock on Sept. 20. The festival, a celebration of the American Spirit, is the official kick-off for the grand opening - and world premiere - of the newest exhibit, "Art of the Chopper."
"Although we are a country of diversity, we have an American culture that helps define who we are, and it's expressed through what we listen to, what we eat, what we wear and what we do," said Stephanie Streett, executive director of the William J. Clinton Foundation. "The American Classics Festival, the first of many, will celebrate our collective American culture."
The festival will feature several events including: a live musical performance from Little Feat; Pigment: Art of the Divine Swine Art Exhibit; the Rib Rally on the River Barbecue Contest; children's activities; festival food; and the March of Dimes "Bikers for Babies" rally.
Art of the Chopper
Saturday's festivities kick off with the grand opening, and world premiere, of "Art of the Chopper." Open to the public through Feb. 8, 2009, the exhibit will feature 30 extraordinary examples of custom motorcycles created by the pre-eminent artists of the genre. This is the first time this collection of hand-crafted motorcycles will be assembled and displayed together. The exhibit opens at 9 a.m., at the Clinton Presidential Library. Regular admission fees apply.
Rib Rally on the River
On Saturday morning, the Rib Rally on the River will be gearing up with participants preparing for the afternoon's judging. The Rib Rally on the River is a back yard barbecue competition open to individuals and teams who believe their barbecue ribs, chicken or sauce are among the best-kept culinary secrets in the known universe. More than $10,000 in sponsor-provided prizes and cash will be awarded - through tenth place - to the individuals and teams who prove their rib worthiness.
Bikers for Babies
On Saturday afternoon, the 14th annual Arkansas Bikers for Babies rally will feature more than 2,500 motorcyclists who will ride more than 50 miles from Toad Suck, Ark., to Celebration Circle at the Clinton Center. Bikers for Babies is an opportunity for riders and motorcycle lovers to raise money and awareness to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.
