On display through July 13th, the exhibit provides visitors with a look into the
rooms and grounds of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. The model of the White House, done
by John and Jan Zweifel, is 60-feet long and 25-feet wide and was constructed
in a one-inch-to-one-foot scale. It has broken attendance records nationwide!
The replica, which took 32 years to complete, is a faithful recreation of the
president’s home that opens up rooms seldom seen by the public. Details
include hand-carved furniture; tiny paintings that match the exact colors of
the original works of art; working miniature televisions and clocks; and hundreds
of tiny lights which illuminate the chandeliers.
The top floor of the three-story model includes the Lincoln Bedroom, which
served as President Lincoln’s office where he signed The Emancipation
Proclamation. The second floor includes The Green Room, which Thomas Jefferson
used as a dining room; and the bottom floor includes the Map Room, in which
President Franklin Roosevelt followed the course of World War II.
April 26, 2008 Earth Day 2008 (Largest Earth Day festival in the state)
The Clinton Presidential Center and the Arkansas Earth Day Foundation hosted
the Arkansas Earth Day Festival on Saturday, April 26, 2008, from 11 a.m. to
4 p.m. Over 6,500 people attended the largest Earth Day event in the state!
Families with young children and people of all ages attended this exciting event
that featured food, shopping, games and live entertainers. Some of the exciting
attractions included Arkansas' Fish and Game mobile native fish tank, Arkansas
National Guard's climbing wall, a "green" playhouse and much more!
The Arkansas Earth Day Festival aimed to motivate, educate, and energize
all Arkansans and their families, businesses and government to take
positive action for a clean and healthy environment while celebrating
Earth Day. The 2008 theme, "What Can YOU Do?" was designed to give
attendees positive and simple ideas for greening their lifestyle. The
festival and concert were carbon-free. Sustainable Alternatives, in
conjunction with Goldman Recycling, Keep Little Rock Beautiful and Ron
Meyers and Associates accepted batteries, cell phones, printer and toner
cartridges and several other recyclable items this year at Arkansas
Earth Day.
The Clinton Presidential Center and Heifer International also offered
free green tours of their LEED Platinum buildings during the festival.
In addition to a day of activities, the "Innovate or Die Competition"
award winning Aquaduct bicycle was at the festival. The Aquaduct bicycle
is a three-wheeled mobile filtration vehicle that is designed to both
transport and filter up to twenty gallons of water in developing
countries where access to clean water is unavailable. The team that
created this prototype bicycle was on hand to demonstrate how the bike
works.
